Victoria’s student-athletes recently showcased their talent and determination at the inaugural School Sport Australia Games, held on the sunny Gold Coast. A contingent of 311 students and 40 team officials made the journey north for the multi-sport event, which featured a range of competitions and brought together young athletes from across the country.
The games proved to be a resounding success for Victoria, with several teams delivering standout performances:
- Australian Football: The 15 Years & Under Girls team secured 4th place, while the 15 Years & Under Boys team clinched an impressive 2nd place.
- Basketball: Victoria’s teams shone brightly, with the 12 Years & Under Boys team taking 1st place and the 12 Years & Under Girls team finishing 2nd. The 16 Years & Under Boys and Girls teams also performed well, achieving 5th and 4th places, respectively.
- Hockey: The 15 Years & Under Girls team finished 5th, and the 15 Years & Under Boys team earned a bronze medal finishing in 3rd place.
- Netball: The 15 Years & Under Girls team demonstrated their skills with a 3rd place finish.
- Softball: In the 18 Years & Under category, the Girls team achieved 5th place, while the Boys team came in 6th.
- Swimming: Victoria’s swimmers were particularly outstanding, with 269 personal bests and 55 medals awarded.
The School Sport Australia Games provided a valuable opportunity for Victoria’s emerging athletes to compete at a high level and gain invaluable experience. The event not only highlighted the talent and dedication of these young sports stars but also set a high benchmark for future editions of the games.
