The recent Victorian Teachers' Games (VTG) were an overwhelming success, confirming their place as a vital event for teacher wellbeing and connection. The Games saw a large turnout, delivering a powerful boost of fun and activity to the education community.
By the Numbers: Record Participation and Community
The scale of this year's VTG was impressive: 1,112 dedicated participants joined in the activities, representing 214 schools (including five early learning centres). The community spirit was high, with a near-even split between familiar faces (560 returning participants) and those new to the games (552 new participants).
To run the event, a huge team coordinated across 22 venues for 60 sessions covering 26 events. We extend a massive thank you to the 15 VTG Central volunteers and the 87 conveners, match officials, and event volunteers who ensured everything ran smoothly alongside our 7 dedicated partners.
Wellbeing Focus: Fun and Connection
The core reason for VTG’s success is its impact on personal wellbeing. The single word most used by participants to describe the games was simply “FUN.”
Crucially, the games delivered real health benefits, with an astonishing 98% of surveyed participants reporting a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing.
The top three benefits participants valued most were:
🤝 Connecting with colleagues
🏃 Being active
😄 Having fun
The combination of spirited competition and social connection truly made the 2025 Victorian Teachers' Games a memorable event for everyone involved!
We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
This is what Jane McCurry from Aitken Creek Primary School
“The Victorian Teachers’ Games are so much more than just sport and socialising, they are a celebration of teachers as people… You created a space where we could feel supported, included, celebrated, and truly alive… I left feeling inspired, happy, and more connected than ever.”
