Active Schools supporting students in being active

The Victorian Government recently announced the $24.2 million Active Schools initiative, which will provide Victorian government schools with funding to help provide more opportunities for students to participate in physical education, sport, outdoor education and other recreational activities.

Active Schools includes funding to support government schools to meet the costs of after school programs, including sport, and funding to implement a whole-school approach to physical activity.

All schools will also have access to a new Active Schools Toolkit, which will include tips on how to make their school and their kids more active, including through quality school sport.

Providing quality school sport is one of six priority areas within the Active Schools Framework, which supports schools to take a whole-school approach to physical activity.

School Sport Victoria is highlighted as a key contributor to providing quality school sport, as part of a joint strategy between the Ministers for Education, Community Sport and Health to create active schools, active kids and active communities.

This strategy highlights the importance of quality school sport to developing well-rounded students, and in supporting their physical, social and emotional health.

School Sport Victoria looks forward to continuing to provide school sport participation opportunities for primary and secondary schools across Victoria, as well as supporting those schools funded under Active Schools to provide school sport as part of a whole-school approach to getting their students active.
