About the School Sport Victoria Advisory Committee
Overview
The SSV Advisory Committee supports the strategic management of SSV, including its strategic directions, key programs and stakeholder partnerships.
The SSV Advisory Committee is part of the governance model for SSV, which formally commenced in 2021. Further details on the Advisory Committee is included in the Terms of Reference.
SSV's School Sport Victoria Strategic Directions 2020 to 2030 aims to provide a clear direction for School Sport Victoria to engage more Victorian students in school sport by creating more opportunities to participate and addressing future challenges.
SSV's purpose is to develop young people through school sport and role is to enable students to play sport, champion the value of school sport and connect school and community sport.
SSV's priorities over the five-year period to 2025 are to:
- Enable students of all abilities and those from low socio-economic areas to participate in a variety of sports which are integrated within school sport pathways.
- Engage primary school students (9 to 13 years) to participate in a variety of sports, to build foundation skills, concentration, confidence and enjoyment.
- Retain secondary school students (12 to 18 years) in sport, through competitive and social formats, to support social belonging, resilience, leadership and academic learning.
- Encourage girls to participate in sports which are inclusive and leverage existing social friendships.
- Enhance the development of students' athletic abilities, leadership and wellbeing through talent pathways.
Membership
The SSV Advisory Committee has 14 members and aims to ensure a diversity of skills and experience, background, sector representation and gender. SSV encourages people from all backgrounds to apply, including women, Aboriginal Victorians, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, regional areas and people who identify as LGBTIQ+. The Committee shall have a minimum of 40% women.

Meetings and time commitment
The Committee will hold a minimum of four (4) meetings per year. Provisional dates for these meetings are - Feb, May, Jul, Oct.
Meetings are held 9:00am to 12:00pm on either a Monday or a Friday either virtually or at School Sport Victoria offices in Coburg. Members can attend the meetings remotely via teleconference and/or online meeting facilities.
In addition, Committee members are expected to attend any Special General meeting(s) as required and are strongly encouraged to attend major school sport events, including State Championships and School Sport Australia Championships events hosted in Victoria.
Out of session meetings may be requested by the Chair, where advice is required by the SSV Advisory Committee between scheduled meetings. This may include advice sought via email, verbally or at an out of session meeting with the SSV Advisory Committee.
Remuneration
Advisory Committee members are volunteer roles and may not receive any remuneration from SSV. However, Advisory Committee members may be reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses in accordance with the Department's policies and as approved by the Chair.
Nomination and selection process
An Expression of Interest process will be run to allow nominations to be received for vacant and/or lapsing positions.
Nominations are to include:
- A signed Nomination Form, including two referees supporting the nomination
- A current resume not exceeding 3 pages, and
- A cover letter not exceeding 2 pages, addressing the required skills, experience and/or knowledge relevant for the nominating position(s).
A nominee may nominate for more than one position, relevant to their skills, experience and/or knowledge.

Nominations will be assessed by a Selection Panel appointed by the Committee Chair.
All supporting documents submitted by a nominee will be circulated to the Selection Panel. At its discretion, the Selection Panel may undertake referee checks and/or undertake an interview with the nominee.
Appointments are approved by the Committee Chair.
An announcement regarding the appointment of SSV Advisory Committee members will be made as soon as possible.
