School Sport Victoria to establish new Advisory Committee

School Sport Victoria to establish new Advisory Committee
4/08/2020

On 30 July 2020, a School Sport Victoria (SSV) Special General meeting was held to outline the future strategic directions of SSV for 2020 to 2030 and to vote on the recommendation that a new SSV Advisory Committee be established to replace the current SSV Board.

School Sport Victoria members voted unanimously in favour of the transition from the current SSV board and Operating Procedures to an SSV Advisory Committee

The SSV Advisory Committee will support and inform the implementation of SSV's future strategic directions as well as enable SSV's governance model to be more aligned within the Department of Education and Training (DET).

The composition of the SSV Advisory Committee will bring key skills and expertise across education and sport sectors, as well as student health and wellbeing, sponsorship and communications, financial and data analysis and inclusion and health equity. SSV will soon release information regarding the nomination process for the SSV Advisory Committee.

Importantly, SSV President Tony Goodwin paid homage to the outstanding contribution of the SSV board since the establishment of SSV in 2010, following the merger of the Victorian Primary Schools' Sports Association and the Victorian Secondary Schools' Sports Association in 2009.

"The SSV board has made a major contribution to School Sport Victoria, which provides an extensive school sport program to primary and secondary students across Victoria. Last year, over 650,000 student participation opportunities were provided in interschool sport. The decision to transition to the skills-based SSV Advisory Committee is an important milestone which will inform the direction of SSV into the future," said Goodwin.
